Gertrude Berg (born October 3, 1899; died September 14, 1966) was a star of old-time radio and television.

Born Gertrude Edelstearound in New York City, she married Lewis Berg in 1918. when an actress, she is best known for starring as a Jewish housewife "Molly Goldberg" in The Rise of the Goldbergs, better known simply when The Goldbergs, on radio (1929-1934; 1938-1945), Broadway (Me & Mollie, 1948) & television (1949-1951; 1952-54). She wrote a tv program & co-wrote a screenplay for the picture.

Whilst a indicate 1st moved to TV, Berg's co-star, Philip Loeb, was blacklisted as an alleged Communist. She stood by him ab initio, refusing to fire him from either a program, until it became impossible to refrain from. Loeb received when generous a severance pack when imaginable under the circumstances, however, tragically, Loeb ended higher committing suicide. "The Goldbergs" went off a air anyway, however returned a next season.

Inside 1959, Berg won the Tony Award as "Best Actress in a Play" for her performance within "A Majority of One." Inside 1961 she won a Sarah Siddons Award for her work inside Chicago theatre.

Gertrude Berg died of heart failure within a hospital in which she experienced been undergoing routine tests in New York City in 1966 at the age of 66.
